Goldie Hawn, Founder and President of MindUP | The Goldie Hawn Foundation, gave an inspirational speech, highlighting the organization’s impactful work centered around children’s mental health. On MindUP’s work, she remarked, “Brain development happens very quickly when kids are very little.” Further discussing the importance of teaching the children about the brain, Goldie continued, “Let’s teach them how to quiet their mind, so they’ll be able to take what’s going on in their brain, and correlate it to their activity. They get to know their mind. They get to manage their emotions. They get to feel in control. We put them in the driver’s seat. It’s a way of giving your children the kind of tools that they need in order to go forward.”

After her remarks, Goldie welcomed Martin Short back to the stage, where they delighted the audience with a rendition of ‘The Way You Look Tonight.’

Melissa Schlinger, CEO of MindUP | The Goldie Hawn Foundation, then spoke eloquently about the foundation’s goals and aspirations. She highlighted, “Forty percent of teenagers are reporting hopelessness and depression. Kids today face unbelievable challenges like school shootings, academic pressure, and climate change. Yet, there’s optimism.” She noted the CDC’s recognition of MindUP, and shared, “In New York City, we’re not only seeing tremendous results with the children, but teachers are also reporting significant mental health benefits themselves.”

Guests enjoyed dinner from Badmaash, Otium, Scopa, Chef K, and Angelini and bid on luxury auction items. The evening concluded with a special performance by Kate Hudson, who performed covers as well as two originals from her newest album.

The event successfully raised funds and heightened awareness for MindUP, the foundation’s acclaimed social-emotional learning program, which has positively impacted millions of children worldwide since its creation in 2003.  As Goldie said in her remarks, “20 years is amazing, but we’re just getting started”.
